MCM Comic Con London 2026 World Premiere 1st stop - Event Report

The TV anime Sparks of Tomorrow, produced by Kyoto Animation, will begin TV broadcasting and stream exclusively worldwide on Netflix starting July 5, 2026.
In addition to Japan, world premiere events for Sparks of Tomorrow are scheduled to take place in the United Kingdom, Thailand and North America. This series has also been officially selected and nominated in the TV Films Category at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026, further building anticipation among audiences around the globe.
The World Premiere 1st stop was held on May 23, 2026 (local time) at MCM Comic Con London 2026, where fans were given an exclusive early screening of Episodes 1 and 2.
Welcomed by enthusiastic applause from audiences eagerly awaiting the world's first screening, Director Minoru Ota took the stage to greet the audience. Following his message encouraging everyone to enjoy the show, the screening began.
The audiences remained captivated by the visuals on screen from start to finish. As the story unfolded, the characters' actions and the rapid-fire developments drew continuous laughter and cheers from the crowd. Following the screening, the venue erupted into applause, which only grew louder when the MC invited audience to share their impressions.
During the Q&A session, Director Ota was asked whether viewers should prepare tissues for future episodes, noting that Kyoto Animation's works are often known for bringing audiences to tears. He responded: "This series may make you wipe away tears not just because it's moving, but perhaps because you'll be laughing too much." His humorous answer was met with laughter from the audience.
Audiences also shared their enthusiasm for the series, with comments such as, "The painterly visual style is beautiful!" and "I can't wait to see what happens next!" filling the room and further energizing the event.
Set in Kyoto during the fictional Meiji Era, an alternate age in which steam technology has developed far beyond historical reality, Sparks of Tomorrow follows youngsters pursuing their dreams, confronting personal struggles, and taking their first steps toward a brighter future.
Through its ambitious visual storytelling, the series portrays themes that resonate across borders and cultures, moving audiences around the world.
